How to seek help for mental health?

According to the WHO, Mental health is "more than just the absence of mental disorders or disabilities." It not only needs to avoid active mental illnesses but also maintaining overall well-being and happiness. Stress, despair, and anxiety can all interrupt a person's routine and damage their mental health. Emotional, psychological, and social well-being all fall under the umbrella of mental health only. It impacts our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours and influences how we deal with stress, socialize, and make decisions.

According to research, men had a 3.96 times higher likelihood of having poor mental health than women, and persons with "low economic position" had the most elevated mental health disorders.

Why is mental health very common?

In this stage of life, where everything is full of challenges and constraints, mental health is the most valuable pearl. People are being diagnosed with mental illnesses or recognizing the indicators of mental disease in themselves. As everyone wants to be more superior and make more money, people don't want to sacrifice even a little, and if they can't do this, they get depressed quickly. Our psychological composition is also influenced by culture and society. As the pandemic worsens, the majority of us are at risk of losing our jobs, and as a result, many are becoming depressed because they are the family's sole source of income.

It's certainly likely that as our world grows increasingly unclear and hostile, more individuals will acquire mental health issues. Mental health difficulties will also become more prevalent in the future. The reason for this is that we are more exposed to information that our minds are unable to absorb appropriately, and as a result, we are impacted incorrectly. Our modern world is highly stressful compared to the past, with far more pollution, stimulation, and separation. All of these variables contribute to the rise in mental illness rates. In the age of social media, mental illness will become more common.

Early warning indicators of mental disease include:

There is no reliable physical test or scan that can determine whether or not someone has developed a mental disorder. However, the following are likely indications of a mental health condition that people should be aware of:

  1. Distancing from friends, family, and coworkers.
  2. Avoiding doing things that they love.
  3. Sleeping and eating excessively or insufficiently.
  4. Feeling hopeless or filled with negative thoughts.
  5. Having a low level of energy regularly.
  6. Start using mood-altering substances like alcohol and nicotine more frequently.
  7. Negative feelings are more regularly displayed for others.
  8. Being confused and irritated.
  9. Being unable to carry out regular duties such as getting to work or preparing a meal.
  10. Having recurring thoughts and reminiscences of doing bodily damage to themselves or others.
  11. Experiencing misconceptions.

Is irritability a precursor to mental illness?

As a result of their mental breakdowns, people are easily upset. They have anger issues and become easily irritated if they don't like anything, which is also an indication of mental illness.

Everyone gets irritated now and then, but some people get irritated more frequently than others. Irritability can be caused by various factors, ranging from a lack of sleep to a lack of food and energy. And, while we're all irritable at times but it might be a symptom of a more serious mental health issue. However, having irritable symptoms alone is not enough to be diagnosed with a mental health problem. If, on the other hand, our irritability persists and interferes with our relationships, work, school, or social functioning, or if our friends or loved ones report that we are constantly irritable, we should seek medical care as soon as possible. As a result, it's best to seek the advice of mental health or medical professional.

Suppose we notice that we are becoming enraged over something that we would typically be okay with. In that case, we should consult a doctor who can recommend the best treatment for us because it is critical to seek medical advice and assistance early. Because once we know what's causing the problem, we'll find a better solution and focus on being happy rather than irritable.

How can relatives and friends assist you with this problem?

1.We must always pay attention to them and validate their viewpoint.

Consider what our friend is going through and how it is affecting them. Many people who struggle with their mental health may blame or judge themselves for their problems, so it is essential to validate them.

2.Always ask them if they need help from us.

Support looks different for everyone, and what we may need when we're struggling may not be what someone else needs when they're having a hard time.

3.Make an offer to help with everyday tasks.

Many people who are dealing with mental health issues may find it extremely difficult to make fundamental decisions. If we talk to them, offer to take them to a doctor's appointment or do a grocery for them. We might also consider sending them a gift card for their meals to make them happy.

4.DO celebrate their wins, including the small ones

When a person is fighting with their mental health, the days can be full of challenges. So always cheer on their accomplishments and victories. This method can help affirm their feelings of agency and ability.

5.DO keep in touch with them frequently.

Check in with them regularly, keep them company when we can, and always tell our friends that we love them and are always on their side.

Some of the things a person can do themselves to avoid negative thoughts:

Whether through self-help groups or close friends and family, having a support network can be crucial to mental illness recovery.

  1. When we're feeling down, try writing down our feelings and reflecting on them.
  2. Talk to a friend or family member is the best solution because having at least one person who will listen to us without passing judgement is a great blessing.
  3. Exercise for 30 minutes and meditation for 10 minutes. It aids in the maintenance of both physical and emotional well-being.
  4. Praying – The Almighty's sovereignty is more significant than any energy, and the goodness it vibrates has protected our soul.

Why is it critical to be concerned at an early stage?

Early detection and treatment can make a significant impact on the progression of a mental illness. Anxiety disorders and mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder, can be well-managed and lead to a decent quality of life if recognized early. Often, the best course of treatment is a combination of counselling and medicine, which is tailored to the diagnosis and the individual's specific needs. If mental diseases are not treated, people are more prone to commit suicide and develop other health issues.

Treatment for mental health issues:

Treatment is very personalized, and what works for one person may not work for the next. The individual must engage closely with a physician who can help them assess their needs and provide appropriate treatment.

1.Talking therapies, often known as psychotherapy

It can assist patients in recognizing the source of their mental illness and begin developing more healthy thought patterns that support daily living while reducing the danger of isolation and self-harm.

2.Medication

Antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anxiolytics are among the medications administered to some persons. While these medications cannot cure mental diseases, they can help a person improve their symptoms and resume social contact and a regular schedule while working on their mental health.

3.Self-help

A person dealing with mental health issues will almost always need to make lifestyle modifications to be well. Reducing alcohol consumption, sleeping more, and eating a well-balanced, healthy diet are examples of such adjustments. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and mindfulness may benefit people suffering from anxiety or depression.

Furthermore, mental well-being is not just determined by financial stability. The way you choose not to give up and instead fight what bothers you defines your mental health resilience. Recognize that not all mental health issues and challenges and mental disorders have the same appearance. Some people may be having difficulties due to a specific event or scenario, while others may have a long-term mental condition. The mind's response to trauma and stress is referred to as "mental disease." Being aware and connected to others face to face are two excellent methods to maintain mental wellness.
